Label Pairs

Keeping a label and its not- twin mutually exclusive so you can send to everyone who doesn't have a label: naming a pair, the default side, and the tie-break.

What it does

Ghost's newsletter picker can send to members who have a label, but not to everyone who doesn't. Name a label and Label Pairs maintains its not- twin, so every member carries exactly one of the two: filter on either half and you have the whole audience, split cleanly.

Setting up a pair

  • Under Pairs, type the label name (say VIP) and the card shows the two labels it will manage, VIP and not-VIP.
  • For each pair, pick the side new members start on, and the side that wins if a member somehow holds both.
  • When one side goes on, the other comes off; taking one side off puts the other on. It repairs instantly on member changes with the webhook enabled, and a nightly pass keeps the whole membership consistent.
  • After adding a pair, run Re-tag all members to backfill your existing membership. Renaming a pair leaves the old labels on members; clean those up in Ghost.
