Geolocation Labels

Labelling every member by the country Ghost recorded at signup, and by regions you define; the allowlist, the nightly and instant runs, and re-tagging.

What it does

Gives every member a loc: Country label, worked out from the geolocation Ghost recorded when they signed up. It runs every night, and instantly at signup once Tag new members instantly is enabled (that adds a member webhook to your Ghost site; if Email Automations is also on, the same webhook serves both). A member whose location can't be resolved gets loc: Unknown and is retried on later runs, so data that shows up late still lands.

The settings

  • Enabled switches the rule on. Run now labels the members who don't have a location label yet; Re-tag all members recomputes every member, which is what you need after changing the settings below, since saving a change never re-labels existing members on its own. The card shows the last run and its counts.
  • Country allowlist. Select countries to tag individually. Countries not on the list are tagged loc: Other. Leave it empty to tag every country individually.
  • Regions. Group countries into named regions, and each region labels every member either in or out of it: loc region: Name or loc region: not Name. Two more labels are yours to name or leave blank: one for "no region matched" and one for "location unknown" (a member whose location is unknown gets only that one, never a not- label). The editor warns if a country sits in two regions, since those members get several region labels.
