Footnote Helper

Numbered footnotes you can paste anywhere, with links that still land in the right place from an inbox, and the one-time script that turns them into jump links.

1. Choose your article

Pick it from the picker or paste its Article URL. The links are built on that address, so they work from the email Ghost sends and from ActivityPub readers as well as on the page: a click from either brings the reader to the post on your website, at the footnote.

2. Footnote format

Superscript 1, parentheses (1), or square brackets [1].

3. Copy your footnotes

For each number there's an in-text marker to paste where the footnote is cited, and an end note marker to paste at the bottom of the post, in front of the note's text. Each is one click to copy.

4. Add the jump-links script (once)

Paste it into Ghost → Settings → Code injection, Site Header or Footer. It's what scrolls a visitor to the right spot on the page when they arrive from a footnote link, and on the site it also makes the footnotes clickable, adds return arrows (↩) to the end notes, and removes their underlines. One paste per site.
