Why it's closing

Inspectors found corrosion on two of the four support bearings during the routine survey in March, and rated the deck unsafe for vehicles over 7.5 tonnes.1 The council closed it to lorries that week and to all traffic a month later.

What the repair costs

The published figure is £2.4m, though the same document notes that a full deck replacement — likely within a decade — would cost roughly four times that.2

What happens to the 14 bus

It diverts via Cross Lane from the 12th, adding about nine minutes. The stop outside the library is suspended for the duration.

Most Ghost add-ons are JavaScript, and no email client on earth runs JavaScript. So the clever widget that looks great on your site arrives in your reader's inbox as a blank space, a broken link, or nothing at all — and you don't find out until someone replies to tell you.

All three of these are built the other way round. The table of contents is baked into the post before it sends. The share buttons have a no-JavaScript version made for email. The footnotes use absolute links, so they still land in the right place from an inbox — or from ActivityPub, come to that.

Grab an in-text number, grab its matching end-note, paste them into the post. The links are absolute, so a reader tapping footnote 4 in their email lands on footnote 4. One optional snippet on your site turns them into proper jump links with a return arrow.
